Hi Palulu Camping,

I photographed the same or a very similar species at your place. It's really very interesting how they hoover, rahter than fly in a regular way. After some searching, I think they are true mosquitos (Culicidae) belonging to the genus Sabethes. The females suck blood, and they are said to prefer landing on your nose.
