Please sign and share! Greedy people with friends in high places are destroying one of the last sea turtle nesting places in my country and in the world. Please help us keep sand miners away from Braamspunt forever!

Some photos of the dozens of people who on 18-02-2017 took the effort to go Braamspunt at the mouth of the Suriname River to protest the restarted mining of sand there. The Braamspunt beach/sand bank is not only a very vital part of the natural coastal protection of Paramaribo, but also an important nesting beach for the four species of endangered sea turtles which nest on the Surinamese beaches each year. The renewed mining efforts coincide with the start of the 2017 nesting season.

- First two photos show demonstrators with their protest signs;
- Third photo shows the Dutch ambassador in Suriname surrouned by demonstrators of, among others, WWF Guianas, Scouting Suriname, Stichting Probios, Stichting Dierenbescherming Suriname, Green Heritage Fund Suriname;
- Fourth photo shows protest organizer Erlan Sleur of Stichting Probios addressing the Surinamese and Dutch press;
- Fifth photo shows Michael Hiwat of WWF Guianas addressing the Surinamese and Dutch press;
