We have found the Cicindela species serveral times in Suriname. All observations were close to Zanderij on sandy savanas by night. Does anyone know the indentification.

Hello Jos, welcome to GNF!

Your beetle is not a true Cicindela species, but does also belong to the tiger beetles (subfamily Cicindelinae). It appears to be some Tetracha species, maybe Tetracha (Tetracha) sobrina. There are similar species however.

From my experience, the species you found is very common in the sandy savannas around Zanderij, except possibly in the dry season. A quite beautiful species!

Cheers, Auke
