Hello Steve, and welcome to GNF!

This is a species in the family of the lantern bearers, Fulgoridae. It actually belongs in the genus Fulgora, and it may well be Fulgora laternaria. That's the species described by Linnaeus in 1758 after a drawing by Maria Sybilla Merian (published in 1705) who believed the giant outgrowth of the head emitted light at night (it doesn't).

By the way, for some reason your photos are much larger than my screen. They seem to have a huge amount of pixels despite a limited amount of kB. Is there some other way you could compress them?

Cheers, Auke  :)
