Identification of turtle | Trachemys scripta (Emydidae)

I saw this turtle in the end of July in paramaribo. I've looked in some books, but can't find it.

Hi Joris, no wonder you couldn't find this species in your books; this isn't a Surinamese turtle, but a male (because of the long front nails) of a red-eared slider or Trachemys scripta (Nederlands: roodwangsierschildpad). These turtles originate in North America, but are kept worldwide as pets. Your specimen was probably released after it became to large for the aquarium it was kept in.
